. >> sure. >> good morning, chair, supervisors avalos and mar. my name is brook [speaker not understood]. today i will go over a few slides to discuss the project's phasing and square footages to familiarize you on the project. so, we have an investment opportunity to expand an important facility for san francisco, that's the moscone convention center. the slide that you see before you today, we are looking to add about 26,000 square feet of meeting rooms to bring it up to 85,000. 80,000 square foot or more of contiguous exhibit space which is the most important space for the convention center. up to 87,000 in multi-purpose space and 178,000 of support spaces such as loading, service, restaurants and things like that. the -- one of the key objections of the expansion project would be to maintain continuous operation during the construction for the expansion of the moscone convention center. in addition to the improvements to the facilities, we will also be looking to improve streetscape, connectivity, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and bring a sense of arrival of moscone convention cent

[laughter] >> i just think it's really important to actually acknowledge decisions we make and what the impact is to overall san francisco. i see that we are making a very large investment that's going to have a major impact on moscone and jobs and the hotel room industry. we're using a lot of general fund, a third of the financing come from the general fund. what we don't see -- we're going to see economic benefits to the city, $180 million in a year in economic benefit for the city itself in terms of revenue, about $13 million supported by ted eagan. and, so, we're seeing an expansion of general fund dollars that is going to come from this. we've made other decisions recently around providing huge benefit and support general fund
francis and john avalos' office, without her nobody would know what we were doing because she helps us with all of our fliers and everything that we need to do. john has been tireless. he comes to my house on fridays at 5:30 for meetings. he's a great, great supervisor and a champion for our district. and we're excited about this year. we're going to put in a park. we're going to do safety initiatives. we're looking for grant money for more beautification. if anybody is interested in starting a neighborhood watch and getting involved, call me and i can help you get started. it's a great thing to know your neighbors, even the ones who are a pain in the neck. it's a great thing to know your neighbors. . and -- >> and that is the deepest discount in the bart system. >> okay, okay. >> thank you. >> supervisor avalos? >> just a quick question. just a quick question. mr. rose touched upon it, that the feeder agreement, he described i think he said voluntary. and historically how does that agreement come about? no one really describes anything where there is a payment made as voluntary. so, i'm a little bit surprised by that wording and how did this agreement first come about, what was the rationale behind it and policy objective? >> it predates me. back in 1987 there was a decision made regionally that bart should contribute to sfmta for the bringing the riders to the bart system. and, so, it has continued to that date. and as mr. lee said, it was to be raised on the number of connecting riders. but there was i guess the available -- the data was not able to be collected. so, the metropolitan transportation commission changed the formula to be linked to sales tax. which is somewhat reflective of the economy and the level of rider ship and the health of the bay area as the economy does better sales tax goes up, ride

(applause) >> we can bring up linda cook and patricia de font. i am really, really proud of this neighborhood watch group. we had some really hard times back in 2008. we had a few homicides in the excelsior district, one that is very well known, the bologna homicides. these tragedies are horrible if nothing else but to help communities organize. nay street neighbors really did that. they looked out for one another. they reached out. they created relationships where perhaps they didn't exist before. they looked at their neighborhood and thought, how can we make this neighborhood safer? and they've done amazing things. they've done greening, they planted last month scores of trees in the neighborhood. they brou
